Expeditions

We look for places that feel properly remote: bush tracks that disappear into nowhere, empty stretches of coast, desert horizons and mountains capped with snow. Places that take a bit more effort to reach, and are all the better for it.

We'll generally choose the direction we're heading and go from there. Take a turn, follow a track, see what's further on. Where we end up gets decided upon arrival.

The journey is part of the adventure: the route we choose, how we get there, what we carry and what we discover along the way.

That might mean four wheels, a boat or a flight somewhere further afield. Sometimes it's a long way on foot. Other times, it's simply following a road to see where it goes, and finding out it doesn't.

F5 is simply a record of our adventures along the way: the tracks we take and the places we visit, however we get there. The scenery we find, the weather we get, the vehicle that takes us there and the food we prepare along the way, because being a long way from anywhere doesn't mean dinner has to come out of a packet.

We're not here to make a trip sound any more adventurous than it was. Sometimes the best days are the simplest ones: a place to ourselves, good food, a capable vehicle and nowhere we need to be. Other times, we're wondering whether the track we've just taken was such a good idea after all.

Life and careers have a habit of getting busy. Days fill up, routines take over and there's always something that needs doing. Every so often, it's important to slow things down.

For us, that usually means packing up, heading somewhere remote and disappearing for a while. Fewer plans, even fewer distractions and nothing but the sound of silence. Taking the road less travelled, seeing what's around the next corner and letting the days unfold as they come.
